1880s schoolwork goes on Display
A glimpse into school life before the age of screens is being offered at Johnston Central Library, where an exhibition featuring the work of two Bailieborough schoolgirls from the 1880s continues until Saturday, August 22.
‘Lessons from Bailieborough Model School in the 1880s’ showcases the schoolwork and penmanship of sisters Anne and Mary Martin. The exhibition features beautifully preserved copybooks alongside illustrations, calculations, maps and diagrams.
The collection provides a fascinating insight into education, creativity and everyday learning in Bailieborough more than 130 years ago, while also highlighting the care and craftsmanship that went into handwritten schoolwork.
The exhibition remains open at Johnston Central Library until Saturday, August 22.
