Blayney through to tenth SHC final in a row

Castleblayney are through to their tenth consecutive SHC final after they held off a stern challenge from Inniskeen in Clontibret on Sunday.

Inniskeen put it up to the favourites, inspired by a virtuoso performance by Niall Arthur, but Blayney’s better balance up front guided them through.

All six starting forwards were among eight scorers for Blayney, who remained without the injured Mark Treanor, as they remained on course for another league and championship double, with Leo Moloney contributing 1-7.

A Moloney free and a Thomas Hughes point put Castleblayney into an early lead, with Inniskeen missing several chances to open their account until Niall Arthur converted a free in the eighth minute.

A couple of technical fouls by Blayney allowed Arthur to send over two more frees and as Inniskeen grew into the game, Aaron Gernon ran onto a Trevor Hilliard puck-out to set up Arthur for their first point from play in the 15th minute.
