Truagh through to SHC decider

Truagh will face Castleblayney in the Monaghan SHC Final for a second year in a row after they finished on the right side of an arm-wrestle with Monaghan Harps in Clontibret on Sunday.

First-half goals by David Carvill and Conor McKenna put Truagh in the driving seat and the Harps’ hill became steeper when they were reduced to 14 men early in the second half.

Mark Curry’s side dug deep to stay in the contest to the end, but Truagh held on to advance to their second Senior final of 2026, with Conor Boyle hitting three crucial points after taking over free-taking duties.

Both clubs began the match with 11 players who had started their respective county finals last season.

Truagh were first off the mark through Páidí Treanor and they got an eighth-minute shot in the arm when David Carvill fired to the net, having made a fine catch from a long free by Conor Boyle.

Having only managed a single point – from an Eithan Flynn free – in the opening quarter, Monaghan Harps got moving with three fine scores from the right wing in quick succession, courtesy of the impressive Cathal Power (two) and Flynn.
