Over €70K for two Cavan community vehicles
Over €70,000 has been awarded for two community vehicles in County Cavan.
The local funding was announced today by Minister for Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht Dara Calleary TD, as part of a €2.5 million allocation for 44 vehicles nationwide.
Bailieboro Cancer Comfort CLG received €32,000 for a wheelchair accessible van serving the Bailieborough and Cootehill area; while Cavan County Local Development was awarded €41,187 for a mobility transport bus serving the Ballinagh area.
The sums were awarded under the 2026 CLÁR programme.
"I am really pleased to see these two Cavan groups recognised today," said Minister of State Niamh Smyth in welcoming the announcement. "Getting to cancer treatment or a day care service can be a real struggle for people in rural areas, especially those who don't drive or have mobility needs. These vehicles will make a practical, day-to-day difference to the people who rely on them.
"Bailieboro Cancer Comfort has been a lifeline for so many families in the Bailieborough and Cootehill area, and this new wheelchair accessible van will help them reach even more people. The new bus for Cavan County Local Development will also improve access to services for people in and around Ballinagh.
"I want to thank Minister Calleary for this investment. The CLÁR programme continues to deliver for rural communities, and with the recent expansion of the designated areas, more communities than ever can now benefit from it. Further allocations under Measures 1 and 3 will be announced later this year, and I would encourage groups across Cavan-Monaghan to keep an eye out."
