'Public roads and car parks are not racetracks'
‘Doughnut’ driver has car seized
A driver has had his car seized by Gardaí after allegedly turning a public car park in Cavan Town into a high-speed stunt arena.
Gardaí say the motorist was observed performing “doughnuts” and handbrake turns in the public car park, located at the Lakeland Retail Park.
“This type of driving is dangerous and puts other road users, pedestrians and nearby property at unnecessary risk. A public car park is not a place for this kind of behaviour,” gardaí said in a post shared on social media.
The vehicle was subsequently seized under Section 109A of the Road Traffic Act, and the driver will now have to make an application to the District Court in order to have the car released.
The driver is also now facing a court appearance on specific charges relating to his alleged driving behaviour.
Gardaí meanwhile issued a stark reminder to motorists that dangerous or reckless driving can have serious consequences- not just for the driver behind the wheel, but for everyone in the vicinity.
A public car park is no racetrack, and Gardaí are urging motorists to slow down, drive responsibly and think about the potential consequences before turning public spaces into arenas for high-speed manoeuvres.
“Slow down, drive responsibly and remember: public roads and car parks are not racetracks.”
