Fuel protests roll into second day
WATCH: Video of protest as of noon today on Dublin Road
Protests have continued at the Dublin Road in Cavan Town for a second day as the government seeks to negotiate a deal to ease financial pressures on sectors most dependent on fuel.
Gardaí remain at the scene where trucks and tractors keep the main Dublin Road closed to east-bound traffic and redirect all traffic back towards Cavan Town.
Traffic continues to move, but at a crawl.
Monaghan Stages Rally has been postponed due to the logistical issues involved in organising stewards, competitors and spectators given the blockades.
Cavan hurlers' opening match in the Lory Meagher Cup has been put back by between half an hour and 45 minutes as the Celt understands that the team bus of their opponents, Warwickshire has been delayed by the protests.
The Government is reportedly considering a temporary Fuel Support Scheme to assist the sectors most impacted by the spike in fuel costs, namely hauliers, agricultural contractors and farmers.
