A new garda has been assigned to Kilnaleck, with Killeshandra station also set to reopen.

Full-time Garda for Kilnaleck

A full-time Garda has been assigned and has taken up position on patrol in Kilnaleck.

The development was confirmed by Superintendent Gavin O'Reilly during a meeting of the Cavan Local Community Safety Partnership (LCSP) at Cavan Courthouse on June 17.

Supt O'Reilly revealed that Garda Thomas Burke has been serving full-time in Kilnaleck since June 8, providing the town with a dedicated Garda presence following months of concern about local policing resources.

The appointment comes after public office services at Kilnaleck Garda Station were reduced in January 2025, a decision that sparked widespread concern among residents and public representatives.

It is understood the decision to allocate a serving Garda member to the station was approved by Chief Superintendent Alan McGovern.

In a further boost, Supt O'Reilly indicated that a new Garda will shortly be assigned to Killeshandra, and the station will be fully operational once again “by the end of the summer”.
