Two children are in hospital in Dublin with 'serious injuries' and a woman is in critical condition in Cavan after a car crash near Corduff Cross yesterday (Tuesday, July 2).

The two-car crash happened near Corduff Cross, just south of Ballinagh, at around 2.15pm. It is understood that the cars were travelling in opposite directions at the time of the collision, which injured five.

Two women and two children were travelling in one vehicle. Both children are now in a 'serious' condition in Crumlin Children's Hospital, while both women are in Cavan General Hospital - one described as stable, one in a critical condition.

The lone male driving the other vehicle has since been discharged from Cavan General with minor injuries.

Gardai have investigated the scene and both vehicles and are appealing for witnesses. Cavan Garda Station can be contacted on (049) 436 8800.

The road was closed after the collision and was reopened at 11pm last night.
