Clones and Aughnamullen share the spoils
Aughnamullen 1-14
Clones 1-14
At Sarsfield Park, Aughnamullen.
There was late drama on the banks of Lough Egish on Sunday afternoon, as Aughnamullen salvaged a draw with a late Tiernan Duffy two-pointer against Clones.
Despite injury concerns, Micheál Bannigan started for the hosts but was kept relatively quiet before he limped off midway through the second-half.
Clones twice believed they had wrapped up the game, and led by three, and two points on separate occasions in the dying minutes.
However, Aughnamullen dug deep, snatching the draw to avoid an upset.
It was wet and humid at Sarsfield Park, and both sides took some time to grow into the game. The hosts struck first through Mark McArdle, followed minutes later by a point from Darren Freeman to level the scores.
Clones' scramble defence was impressive as they kept Aughnamullen's dangerous full-forward line relatively quiet in the first-half, but it didn't take long for Duffy and Bannigan to find their range, making it 0-4 to 0-1 after 20 minutes.
